You know when you’re about to go out of town and you have a weird mix of food left in the fridge but you don’t want to buy anything because it’ll go bad? That situation led to a really good dinner for me tonight. 

I dug around in the cupboard and came up with some pasta with arrabbiata sauce. I also made a salad with the last of the romaine hearts, some baby corn, red onion, and parsley. And then I had the incredible brioche toast with goat cheese crumbles and picalilly pictured above.

Picalilly is this sort of strange but delicious British condiment. It’s got pickled vegetables in it (like cauliflower and zucchini), and it’s mustardy and vinegary and tangy enough that it makes my mouth pucker a little. It sort of seems like someone mixed all the hot dog condiments together, minus the ketchup. I love it. 

Anyway, after I ate, I was really happy that I didn’t stop and grab take away. This dinner was so delicious, and there’s something satisfying about using up what you’ve got. Now I’m off to Wales this weekend for some horseback riding. Here’s hoping we get a bit of sun.
